The 61st Annual Grammy Awards are just around the corner: airing Sunday, February 10th, 2019 at 8 P.M. ET on CBS. Perhaps the largest event of the year for the music industry, the Grammys are the chance for artists to get recognized for both their artistic importance and ability to move units. Additionally, the awards show presents them the opportunity to make waves in the cultural zeitgeist with a splashy performance or controversial acceptance speech.

While it’s still too early for the Recording Academy to announce the nominees or the event’s performers, we’re sure to see some of the top musicians in the industry will appear.

Music fans in the United States will have no problem catching the event live, as the Grammys will be broadcast by CBS affiliates around the country, as well streamed live on the CBS All Access app in most markets. However, those living outside of the U.S. will have difficulty tuning in to the awards show, as the show isn’t shown on TV networks outside the country, and streaming the show live from CBS is regionally restricted to those in other countries, as well.

The geoblocking that prohibits international music lovers from viewing the Grammys live isn’t the final nail in the coffin for their viewing hopes. Subscribing to a VPN (virtual private network) is the relatively simple solution for bypassing regional restrictions on live streaming.

A VPN reroutes your internet connection through one of many servers across the world, giving you an IP address local to that area and making it seem to streaming services and websites as if you are actually signing in locally. VPNs also provide top-end security in the form of data encryption and DNS leak protection that prevents hackers from spying on or infiltrating your connection.

By subscribing to a VPN, you can connect to a server in the US, thereby gaining access to streaming options available to locals. This means that two Grammys live streaming options previously off-limits: CBS All Access and Hulu Live TV (which streams CBS live in most markets) will allow you to register an account.

However, in attempting to sign up for a CBS All Access, people will run into one more hurdle: choosing a local TV provider and providing account info is a required step. If you are from the U.S. and still connected with family and friends in the States, you might be able to just borrow the account information from one of them, but if that isn’t your situation, such info will probably be next to impossible to come by.

Fortunately, streaming CBS on Hulu Live TV does not require you to provide local TV provider account info, but you will need a subscription to the service.

Hulu Live TV allowers subscribers unlimited live streaming of over 60 U.S. TV channels, including CBS. While your ability to access the channel still somewhat depends on region, as not all areas of the U.S. allow streaming of CBS on Hulu, you will only have to connect to a VPN server in a region that does offer CBS, rather than type in local TV provider account information.

At $39.99 a month, Hulu Live TV isn’t cheap. If you are just hoping to catch the 2019 Grammys live and nothing else, though, you can take advantage of the service’s seven-day free trial. Just create an account within a week of the Grammys and cancel shortly afterward, without paying anything. If you really want to be thrifty, many VPN services offer short free trial periods, as well.

Let’s be clear, you’ll need the following two services to stream the live 2019 Grammys broadcast:

  • A VPN
  • A subscription to Hulu Live TV
  1. Subscribe to a VPN service with a decent selection of U.S.-based servers (check our list below).
  2. Download and install the client on the device from whichever device you’ll be streaming the Grammys from.
  3. If that device is your computer, clear your browser’s cache to erase any past visits to the Hulu TV page.
  4. Open the VPN client and connect to a server in the United States.
  5. Sign up for a subscription to Hulu Live TV (this can be done just before the broadcast, but you might want to do it a bit earlier just to be sure that you can do it successfully).
  6. Log in to Hulu TV and follow the menus to gain access to the CBS live stream and the 2019 Grammys broadcast.
  • Any VPN worth its salt offers compatibility with all of the major platforms and devices. Expect compatibility with Windows, MacOS, iOS, Android, Apple TV,, Android TV, Amazon Firestick and Fire TV, and Roku.
  • A subscription to a VPN will let you have at least three simultaneous connections going once, and often up to five, which means that one subscription is often enough to satisfy constant use by two or more people in a household..
  • Hulu Live TV works with the major web browsers, Android, iOS, digital media players such as Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, XBox One and XBox 360, select TV models, and more.. The official website has the complete list of supported devices.
