What the Community Says
PureVPN has a mixed reputation, but a lot of people stick with it because it’s cheap, has lots of server locations, and can be pretty quick when you land on a good server. It seems to work well for basic “give me a US IP” needs and general streaming, and some folks say speeds are consistent enough that pages and videos load fast without a fuss. Setup help gets a nod too, especially for Windows users who follow the website guides.
The biggest hesitation is trust: PureVPN still gets dragged for past “no-logs” controversy, and some people don’t like where it’s based. On the day-to-day side, it can be hit-or-miss for streaming (buffering, bans, or long loading at times), and a few people complain it struggles to connect or requires lots of server hopping. Also, features can feel uneven across devices—like the kill switch being limited—so you’ll want to double-check what you get on the platform you actually use.
Strengths
- Cheap long-term deals
- Good speeds on the right servers
- Lots of server locations
- Works for getting a US IP
- Helpful setup guides for Windows
Weaknesses
- Past no-logs trust concerns
- Streaming can be inconsistent (buffering/bans)
- Connection issues for some people
- Features vary by device (kill switch limitations)
- Jurisdiction worries

33 reviews"I'm so sick and tired of PureVPN gaslighting me I'm running Windows 11 25H2 on an ARM64 device. I've had problems with multiple VPN clients not restoring my WireGuard connection after waking from sleep, but PureVPN is notorious for telling me it's connected when it's just not. I've opened up the PureVPN client from the system tray to pause the connection so I can get some local connections working, and have seen that it's apparently been connected for the last four hours - but the "VPN IP" is my own IP from my ISP, and no data has been transmitted. The Windows program is just awful - flash..."
"Do not Trust or Deal with PureVPN I signed up for service that I thought would work for me, assured that I had nothing to lose because they have a money-back guarantee. Don’t believe it! Less than 24 hours went by before I realized that what I thought would help me could not actually be installed on my router. I asked for a refund both on the website and by email, and got no response. This is after buying a dedicated server. What a rip off! Buyer beware! Do not deal with this company."
"I have a modern computer and signed up for PureVPN because it was ultimately free. Based on my experience with it struggling to find a connection, spending five or ten minutes jumping from one server to the next where another VPN service is able to make a successful WireGuard connection in one attempt, gaslighting me into believing that I'm connected while showing me my own WAN IP, and using 25% of my laptop's GPU and rinsing my battery dry, I can concur that PureVPN's service leaves a lot to be desired. [I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, even if it's free](https://www.reddit.com/r/PureVPNco..."
"PureVPN sux. They tell you they have a kill switch to close the sale then you find it is only on the Windows PC app. ALL Android devices are not protected with a kill switch. If you're streaming questionable content and your connection is interrupted your IP will be leaked. BUYER BEWARE..."
"Why Your VPN Provider Is Probably Lying About Their "No-Log" Policy (And How to Actually Verify It) "We don't keep logs." Every VPN company says this. It's on their homepage, in their marketing, in their terms of service. It sounds good. It feels safe. It's also almost impossible to verify. And yeah, some of them are definitely lying. \*\*The Problem\*\* "No-log" doesn't mean what people think it means. It doesn't mean they can't see your traffic. It means they \*claim\* they don't store records of it. But here's the thing: you have to trust them. There's no audit, no blockchai..."
"Ive had pure vpn for a couple of years now. I used their website to help me set it up on my windows 7 system. Very helpful directions. (Their software only runs on windows 10 and 11) but they do help those of us who run older versions of windows, which i am thankful for. So dont let the OP'S experience make you believe this isnt a good company to go through for a VPN."
"I tested 3 cheapest vpn options during black friday and here's speeds and actual performance I rlly got tired of reading reviews that seemed sponsored so I tested the 3 cheapest black friday deals myself. My connection is 250mbps normally Surfshark at $1.99/month - speeds around 180mbps, worked fine for netflix and regular browsing, no complaints really, interface is simple Atlas at $1.70/month - inconsistent, some servers fast others super slow, had buffering issues streaming. I wouldn't recommend even though it's cheap Purevpn at $1.69/month - consistent speeds around 200mbps, everything..."
"@proprivacyEU @grok tell him about that time purevpn was caught collaborating with gov"
"@C4ndide @BROKENBRITAIN0 @elonmusk @ProtonVPN Not an issue with my VPN, PureVPN is certified as holding NO LOGS of your activities. It's also rated as being very secure And with their regular deals on 5 year subscriptions, it's worth looking at"
"@Blackie_Chan897 I’m so glad wwe moved to Netflix in my country, since last year I was on UK VPN with 0 commercials, today it’s No VPN at all and better quality video without any VPN, I’m enjoying it so much bro. I ditched PureVPN for its bad quality for NordVPN and it was perfect."
"@langlebepapa @windscribecom Purevpn keeps logs and have been breached several times."
"I wasn't able to use VPN on the basic plan and I believe the premise is that you need their "work from sea" internet package (above premium) to use VPN but I'm not sure. Also someone on reddit recently said their VPN worked on basic, but mine didn't two weeks ago. I'm pretty positive that it will work with Work From Sea, but not sure about Premium. NordVPN and PureVPN have worked for me if all you need is a USA IP. You can also set up your own VPN server if you have a little technical talent, it's not as hard as you'd expect. But VPN services are pretty affordable too."
"Gaming doesn't work so what are my options? Tmobile is booty when it comes to the games I play. The speeds are fine, but I can't play peer to peer games. I understand it's because of the type of connection Tmobile uses but I can't figure out a work around. I tried running PureVPN through my pc and connecting my Xbox to it with hotspot, but that didn't work. Is our old Arcadyan router a problem? No ISP will run a cable to our house being so far out from the road, so is Starlink the only option?"
"I've been using it for years for streaming mostly and it gets the job done. I'm not in there for privacy just sreaming (netflix I have not tested) However, for heavily censored networks, I have to use free windscribe and proton. Pure does not work. Speeds are ok. My interne is only 50mbits/s though."
"@DeeOakster @140_Vince @T3chFalcon @grok PureVPN = British Islands IPVanish = USA based UFO = Hong Kong based Yeah, the countries that they're based in are all red flags. Could easily find free vpn browser extensions that have logged and even take screenshots of user's browsing experience."
"@windscribecom Canada retains minimal data (bandwidth used, last connection timestamp), not fully zero-log like some Swiss/Panama-based rivals. If you want speeds, flawless 4K streaming, massive server choice, or heavy unrestricted torrenting without any ban risk, use NordVPN or PureVPN."
"I use PureVPN - bought a 5 year deal 4 years ago on BF that allows use on up to 10 devices. Has worked well for the very limited use I make of public WiFi (basically only when there is WiFi but no cell coverage). It expires next year. Not sure I’ll re-up or switch to Nord or Proton paid."

"@windscribecom PureVPN is better."
"@windscribecom Grok only, and everything is accurate and not false. I know that PureVPN gave the data of one user to the FBI, but since then they have no more logs at all. PureVPN has more real countries than Windscribe, you are using fake virtual servers sadly. PureVPNs live chat is better."
"[Headscale](https://github.com/juanfont/headscale) and [Tailscale](https://github.com/tailscale/tailscale) are essentially an open source, sovereign VPN setup. Tailscale is the one most techies are aware of. That replaces the client side, it's the UI that installs onto your computer and phone that you use to connect to your VPN. Headscale is the backend/server portion of that. Tailscale is open source but is still a company and their coordination server knows which devices are in your network and their public IP addresses. In a subpoena scenario, Tailscale Inc. could be forced to hand over t..."

"Best cheap VPN options: my review I’ve seen a lot of threads asking about the best cheap VPN, so I decided to actually spend time using a few of the popular budget options and review them instead of just checking the marketing pages. Before signing up, I went through the [VPN comparison table](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ijfqfLrJWLUVBfJZ_YalVpstWsjw-JGzkvMd6u2jqEk/edit) that is pinned at the top of this sub and it was super useful for narrowing things down, especially for pricing, device limits, logging claims, and renewal costs. After that, I tested a few myself to see how the..."

"Any thoughts (both good and bad) about PureVPN? I found a good sale on PureVPN that I am considering taking advantage of. I know that PureVPN isn't listed among the most popular VPNs, like NordVPM, Surfshark, NortonVPN, ProtonVPN, etc. I'm hoping someone here has used PureVPN or at least looked at what it offers and can tell me why they think it will or won't do the job relatively well. Thank you!"
"anyone knows if purevpn still works?"
"You're doing the right thing with a VPN, but either their software, or the VPN service itself just isn't capable. Not all VPN apps support proxying for other devices and some don't support port forwarding. Ic can't speak for PureVPN, but that's where to start looking."
"I used Tailscale tonight on my flight, along with PureVpn. I’ve also used Cisco VPN in the past for work stuff on WestJet."
"NordVPN does not support port forwarding, which is completely unsuitable for P2P. VPNs that do support port forwarding include: ProtonVPN, AirVPN, Windscribe, PIA, TorGuard, PrivateVPN, PureVPN, etc."
"Umm, the rest seems fine, but just a quick question: how did you test Atlas? Atlas VPN shut down back in April 2024, so the service literally hasn’t been active for months. I’m genuinely curious what you were using, because if you still have an app running then it must be something sketchy pretending to be Atlas. As far as i know, Atlas has been merged with Nord. Surfshark and PureVPN results sound totally normal, but that Atlas bit has me scratching my head. Bro, what exactly did you run your tests on?"
"@BMorearty @bart_lens @QuinnyPig @gruber I did the same and also got an ad for Surfshark and Chrome and PureVPN and Opera. Not sure it proves what he thinks it proves."
"@JohnHopkins_ @Rubicon_John Possibly although it is a purevpn/ivacy reseller so there probably accurate to some extent with the no logs."
"@fintech_shark Audible YT premium & music 1password manager PureVPN Google Cloud &Gemini pro - 18 months free with Jio Claude max -$100 pm Not listing OTTs, too much of a list."
