NordVPN comes up a lot as a “solid all-rounder” VPN that’s easy to use and generally feels reliable day to day. People like the speed when everything’s working normally, and it’s often mentioned as a good pick for streaming devices like Firestick. It also gets praise for privacy features like no-logs claims and extras like Meshnet for connecting devices.
The biggest gripe is pricing and renewals: the intro deal can look great, then the renewal jumps hard and leaves people feeling burned. Some also complain about account and billing headaches (especially when mixing website subscriptions with Google Play), plus occasional slowdowns depending on protocol/server. And while many trust it, the old security-breach history still makes some folks uneasy about transparency.
Strengths
- Good everyday speeds
- Easy to use on phones and streaming devices
- Lots of servers and locations
- Privacy-focused features (no-logs claims, extra tools like Meshnet)
- Works well for many people with multiple devices
Weaknesses
- Renewal price can jump unexpectedly
- Billing and account login/device-limit issues
- Can be slow on some settings or servers
- Past security incident still worries some people
- Not the cheapest long-term option

"Personal VIew mix with professional testing (my business does audits) **Top ones I would personally use on Linux** * Mullvad - Best combination of true privacy, service, and cost * Mozilla (uses Mullvad servers) * Proton would be higher if it had feature parity with the Windows client. **Ones I would personally avoid** * PIA (Private Internet Access): Ties to Government (Israel) * NordVPN: Had a security breach that could cause major issues and didn't notify users until it was leaked online. As someone in the business, their explanation was BS. They are also linked to Tesonet who is a dat..."
"NEVER USE NORDVPN. # NordVPN is a fraud and a bunch of liars. Some proofs: 1. On their site they had a huge banner with a FAKE timer, like: order in the next 38 minutes with a huge discount due to promotion that ends in 38 minutes! When you refresh the page, the timer would still go, but if you clear cookies, the timer surprisingly STARTS AGAIN from 38 minutes. It's a pure marketing fraud. 2. Their main page has third-party trackers that leak your browser fingerprint, your IP and all the possible data to extract, connecting it to your google and youtube profiles and etc.. So, even before yo..."
"Open mullvad or airvpn pages and look for trackers. 0 trackers. In 2026. While NordVPN are fraud and scammers that do not understand security nor privacy."
"Nord VPN has the WORST customer support experience if your credit card expires (and sleazy tactics) I just wasted over an hour fighting with Nord VPN customer support (live chat agent), and I’m so frustrated that I wanted to warn everyone else what I went through. This is so others don't get tricked into paying more money for a lower quality service just because a credit card expired. **My Original Plus Plan / Package:** I’ve been paying for Nord VPN for a while now, and my original plus plan was $13.99/month which included: * NordVPN * Threat Protection * Dark Web Monitor * NordPas..."
"Nord has their Nordlynx protocol which is based off of Wireguard. I've amazingly had no issues with Nordvpn. their nordlynx is really fast and always performs at very close level to my fiber connection, both DL and UL. I always connect to my local city (Los Angeles, CA) servers and they're great. I recommend Nord if you'e looking for basically one of the best easily."
"Try Nord VPN. I’m using It since maybe 2020 or 2021 and i totally love it."
"Cloudflare Warp works, and it even gives you a Chinese IP address while still letting you connect to the internet. But it's slow because your wireguard data is being slowed down by the firewall (2 Mbps). You could also run one yourself at home, which should also work fine. Most of the time I used that in China (L2TP/IPSec connection). NordVPN did not work at all, not even on the hidden sites."
"Just don't buy NordVPN. I did but it didn't work. I was in China for a little over a month. NordVPN wasn't able to make a single connection. I also couldn't connect to get my refund. They also auto charged me for a second month. They refused to refund me because I wasn't able to request refund within 30 days and despite it's because I couldn't connect to their website to make the request. Super bad experience."
"I have NordVPN and it works perfectly for me, I took advantage of Surfshark's Black Friday and I really have no complaints so far, I have it on my Windows 10 laptop and PC, an Apple TV, 2 Android TVs, 3 iPhones and 2 Samsungs so far without problems with any"
"I LOVE Nord. Been with them 10+ years. They just about always have a really good price. It doesn't slow my pc down at all. I don't use public wifi so I don't know about that. It is definitely worth the money."
"Nord is the best, hands down. "
"PIA was awful for me, kept causing a jump in the stream every couple of minutes. Switched to Nord and it's flawless."
"These 4 are the only VPNs worth spending your time and money on when it comes to privacy. Everything else - looking at you Nord, PIA and SurfShark - is a complete and utter waste of time."
"As AI gets better, that will be increasingly useless. Right now disrupting standard behavior patterns works best--literally doing cartwheels is enough for AI to not recognize you as human. Good time to point out that NordVPN is controlled by an American company, and I would assume no American company would fight for your privacy. I wouldn't trust anything they do. Use Proton--they have both a mail service and a VPN. They're Swiss...they do not give AFFFFF who you are, they're not going to give up that privacy. Courtesy of my own AuDHD--shout out to the OP."
"NordVPN didn't disclose it when they got hacked, and should not be promoted while there are good European alternatives like Mullvad."
"NordVPN works for me in the uk I’m watching on paramount plus in Manchester rn"
"No to Nord-vpn and Surfshark. [relationship map](https://embed.kumu.io/9ced55e897e74fd807be51990b26b415?ref=blog.windscribe.com#vpn-company-relationships/nordvpn)"
"Yes, for the past years I’ve been using NordVPN it has really gone downhill. Basically the Norton of VPN’s now. I will be switching to something better as soon as my subscription ends."
"I’ve been bouncing between NordVPN and Mullvad this year – Nord’s speed is insane for streaming, but Mullvad feels way more private"
"This. NordVPN is good indeed."
"Nord vpn on iPhone/ios uses very little battery compared to andriod. Nord VPN rocks."
"NordVPN vs ExpressVPN in 2026: Which One’s Actually Better Now? I recently made the decision to stop relying on free VPNs after dealing with constant slow connections and websites refusing to load. I had been using Windscribe and ProtonVPN for a long time after seeing them recommended all over Reddit. They were fine for light browsing, but this year I am traveling more and need something more dependable for work tasks, streaming, and general privacy. I ended up comparing NordVPN and ExpressVPN since those two seem to get mentioned the most. I started with NordVPN and tested it for about a ..."
"Agreed, Nordvpn has faster servers, and that matters a lot for streaming and gaming."
"Hi, I'd like to share my opinion. I've been using NordVPN for years. First, NordVPN's VPN service is managed under the jurisdiction of Panama, which places it outside the 5, 9, and 14 Eyes alliances. Regarding the anti-malware and plus features, if these work directly within the VPN application, you don't necessarily need to download an external application for it to function. And of course, you can disable and enable them as needed. I can't say it's the "best VPN" because, in my opinion, it depends on several factors. However, NordVPN is clearly a giant in the VPN field, one of the biggest,..."
"NordVPN isn’t in the 9 Eyes and works well for most things. The Plus plan adds built in ad and malware protection, no extra apps needed. Basic is just the VPN."
"ExpressVPN was bought by a data broker... And NordVPN was hacked at least twice. I would not use either. ProtonVPN or MullvadVPN are the only ones I trust."
"if you want something that just works without fiddling, nordvpn is pretty painless. apps are solid and speeds are fine for everyday stuff."
"I wasn't able to use VPN on the basic plan and I believe the premise is that you need their "work from sea" internet package (above premium) to use VPN but I'm not sure. Also someone on reddit recently said their VPN worked on basic, but mine didn't two weeks ago. I'm pretty positive that it will work with Work From Sea, but not sure about Premium. NordVPN and PureVPN have worked for me if all you need is a USA IP. You can also set up your own VPN server if you have a little technical talent, it's not as hard as you'd expect. But VPN services are pretty affordable too."
"I just returned from China and my NordVPN worked fine. With and without dedicated IP."
"August 2024 it didn't work, tried normal, P2P and all different kinds of servers. My Sim Card was from China Mobile store (not airport). Im not doubting that it might have worked for you, but for people reading this, NordVPN isn't something i wouldn't rely on when going to China."
"I use nordvpn on my pc, tablet and sheild, though i rarely have any need to run it on the tablet, or shield. Works great."
"NordVPN has been good for me mate"
"I have nothing to compare it to other than crappy free versions but NordVPN works really well for me and I’ve been able to share it with like 5 family members and it’s allowed - I got it on the Revolut ultra plan which comes with other stuff like free FT"
"I use NordVPN which is one of 2 I would trust that have been externally audited to ensure they keep no logs etc."
"Is iCloud Private Relay Basically a VPN? Is It Good Enough? I picked up a new iPhone recently and noticed that my iCloud subscription included something called Private Relay. At first I did not really understand what it was, but after reading a bit online I saw people comparing it to a VPN. Since I usually switch between free VPNs like ProtonVPN and Windscribe that I find mentioned in free VPN Reddit posts, I decided to test if Private Relay could replace those for everyday use. After turning it on, browsing felt fast and smooth, and I did not run into any loading issues. The downside is tha..."
"NordVPN's user database has been hacked at least twice. ProtonVPN and MullvadVPN are the only one's worth trusting."
"for reliable fast, no logs VPN use - Nord VPN, express VPN, or Mullvad are solid picks that actually work well."
"NordVPN? The VPN that got compromised and tried to hide it?"
"Best for privacy: MullVad, CopVPN, ProtonVPN. Best for speed: Surfshark, Express, NordVPN."
"If you’re looking for a good paid VPN, then try NordVPN, CopVPN, ProtonVPN, or Mullvad. If you’re looking for a free good VPN, then try ProtonVPN, Windscribe or CopVPN."
"Best VPN Still Works with Discovery Plus? I tried to watch a series on Discovery+ a few days ago that is only available in the US, but I am currently staying in Southeast Asia for work. I assumed one of the free VPNs people often mention in free VPN Reddit posts would be enough, but it turned into a frustrating experience. I first tested ProtonVPN since it is usually praised as a solid free option. Even after connecting to a US location, Discovery Plus kept showing a message saying the content was not available in my area. I then tried Windscribe which at least let me browse the site, but on..."
"Yes, it still downloads, but poorly, very poorly, so it's not right. Furthermore, on some private or public trackers, you'll see your ratio plummet rapidly, preventing you from downloading again. You can ask chatgpt to explain the problem in more detail. NordVPN is not recommended for P2P downloading."
"Proton and Mullvad yes Nord haha cmon man, never NordVPN"
"Just got back from Chengdu and Chongqing. Read on a lot of threads that Proton VPN wasn't working in China, NordVPN did the job. Took a 30 days free VPN for the holiday... NordVPN didn't allow me to connect to any server. Funny enough Proton VPN was working perfectly and was very fast to connect to servers in Hong Kong, Japan or Cambodia (where I reside). Just my experience."
"I've used ExpressVPN, NordVPN and most recently ProtonVPN (all paid tiers). I ended up sticking with Nord for a couple of reasons. 1. They seem to have less issues with blocks from Cloudflare. I often found ProtonVPN endpoints being blocked by Cloudflare as malicious. No issues on NordVPN. 2. Kill switch and tunneling implementation. On Nord I can operate a kill switch and vpn at the app level meaning I can have individual apps vpn'ed and kill-switched . In Proton they are mutually exclusive meaning if you have killswitch enabled it's for everything. If you have split tunneling you can't use t..."
"Nord vpn does not work. FYI"
"NordVPN is trustworthy. They don't sell or access your data. They only make money from what you pay for the service."
"The main business model of most VPN providers, yes including most paid ones, is selling your data. There is a reason why the PIA's and NordVPN's of the world can afford to sponsor all those creators."
"Nordvpn took 170e out of my bank this year, won't be doing that again, moving to WINDSCRIBE."
