NordVPN comes up a lot as a “solid all-rounder” VPN that’s easy to use and generally feels reliable day to day. People like the speed when everything’s working normally, and it’s often mentioned as a good pick for streaming devices like Firestick. It also gets praise for privacy features like no-logs claims and extras like Meshnet for connecting devices.

The biggest gripe is pricing and renewals: the intro deal can look great, then the renewal jumps hard and leaves people feeling burned. Some also complain about account and billing headaches (especially when mixing website subscriptions with Google Play), plus occasional slowdowns depending on protocol/server. And while many trust it, the old security-breach history still makes some folks uneasy about transparency.

Strengths

  • Good everyday speeds
  • Easy to use on phones and streaming devices
  • Lots of servers and locations
  • Privacy-focused features (no-logs claims, extra tools like Meshnet)
  • Works well for many people with multiple devices

Weaknesses

  • Renewal price can jump unexpectedly
  • Billing and account login/device-limit issues
  • Can be slow on some settings or servers
  • Past security incident still worries some people
  • Not the cheapest long-term option
Best for: People who want a simple, mainstream VPN that usually just works Streaming and travel use (Firestick, watching shows abroad) Users who like extra features beyond basic VPN
Not ideal for: Budget shoppers who want a steady low monthly price Anyone who hates renewal surprises and wants predictable billing People who need the most dependable option for heavy censorship (like China) without tinkering

"Personal VIew mix with professional testing (my business does audits) **Top ones I would personally use on Linux** * Mullvad - Best combination of true privacy, service, and cost * Mozilla (uses Mullvad servers) * Proton would be higher if it had feature parity with the Windows client. **Ones I would personally avoid** * PIA (Private Internet Access): Ties to Government (Israel) * NordVPN: Had a security breach that could cause major issues and didn't notify users until it was leaked online. As someone in the business, their explanation was BS. They are also linked to Tesonet who is a dat..."

"NEVER USE NORDVPN. # NordVPN is a fraud and a bunch of liars. Some proofs: 1. On their site they had a huge banner with a FAKE timer, like: order in the next 38 minutes with a huge discount due to promotion that ends in 38 minutes! When you refresh the page, the timer would still go, but if you clear cookies, the timer surprisingly STARTS AGAIN from 38 minutes. It's a pure marketing fraud. 2. Their main page has third-party trackers that leak your browser fingerprint, your IP and all the possible data to extract, connecting it to your google and youtube profiles and etc.. So, even before yo..."

"Nord VPN has the WORST customer support experience if your credit card expires (and sleazy tactics) I just wasted over an hour fighting with Nord VPN customer support (live chat agent), and I’m so frustrated that I wanted to warn everyone else what I went through. This is so others don't get tricked into paying more money for a lower quality service just because a credit card expired. **My Original Plus Plan / Package:** I’ve been paying for Nord VPN for a while now, and my original plus plan was $13.99/month which included: * NordVPN * Threat Protection * Dark Web Monitor * NordPas..."

"Nord has their Nordlynx protocol which is based off of Wireguard. I've amazingly had no issues with Nordvpn. their nordlynx is really fast and always performs at very close level to my fiber connection, both DL and UL. I always connect to my local city (Los Angeles, CA) servers and they're great. I recommend Nord if you'e looking for basically one of the best easily."

"Cloudflare Warp works, and it even gives you a Chinese IP address while still letting you connect to the internet. But it's slow because your wireguard data is being slowed down by the firewall (2 Mbps). You could also run one yourself at home, which should also work fine. Most of the time I used that in China (L2TP/IPSec connection). NordVPN did not work at all, not even on the hidden sites."

"Just don't buy NordVPN. I did but it didn't work. I was in China for a little over a month. NordVPN wasn't able to make a single connection. I also couldn't connect to get my refund. They also auto charged me for a second month. They refused to refund me because I wasn't able to request refund within 30 days and despite it's because I couldn't connect to their website to make the request. Super bad experience."

"I LOVE Nord. Been with them 10+ years. They just about always have a really good price. It doesn't slow my pc down at all. I don't use public wifi so I don't know about that. It is definitely worth the money."

"As AI gets better, that will be increasingly useless. Right now disrupting standard behavior patterns works best--literally doing cartwheels is enough for AI to not recognize you as human. Good time to point out that NordVPN is controlled by an American company, and I would assume no American company would fight for your privacy. I wouldn't trust anything they do. Use Proton--they have both a mail service and a VPN. They're Swiss...they do not give AFFFFF who you are, they're not going to give up that privacy. Courtesy of my own AuDHD--shout out to the OP."

"NordVPN vs ExpressVPN in 2026: Which One’s Actually Better Now? I recently made the decision to stop relying on free VPNs after dealing with constant slow connections and websites refusing to load. I had been using Windscribe and ProtonVPN for a long time after seeing them recommended all over Reddit. They were fine for light browsing, but this year I am traveling more and need something more dependable for work tasks, streaming, and general privacy. I ended up comparing NordVPN and ExpressVPN since those two seem to get mentioned the most. I started with NordVPN and tested it for about a ..."

"Hi, I'd like to share my opinion. I've been using NordVPN for years. First, NordVPN's VPN service is managed under the jurisdiction of Panama, which places it outside the 5, 9, and 14 Eyes alliances. Regarding the anti-malware and plus features, if these work directly within the VPN application, you don't necessarily need to download an external application for it to function. And of course, you can disable and enable them as needed. I can't say it's the "best VPN" because, in my opinion, it depends on several factors. However, NordVPN is clearly a giant in the VPN field, one of the biggest,..."

"NordVPN isn’t in the 9 Eyes and works well for most things. The Plus plan adds built in ad and malware protection, no extra apps needed. Basic is just the VPN."

"I wasn't able to use VPN on the basic plan and I believe the premise is that you need their "work from sea" internet package (above premium) to use VPN but I'm not sure. Also someone on reddit recently said their VPN worked on basic, but mine didn't two weeks ago. I'm pretty positive that it will work with Work From Sea, but not sure about Premium. NordVPN and PureVPN have worked for me if all you need is a USA IP. You can also set up your own VPN server if you have a little technical talent, it's not as hard as you'd expect. But VPN services are pretty affordable too."

"Is iCloud Private Relay Basically a VPN? Is It Good Enough? I picked up a new iPhone recently and noticed that my iCloud subscription included something called Private Relay. At first I did not really understand what it was, but after reading a bit online I saw people comparing it to a VPN. Since I usually switch between free VPNs like ProtonVPN and Windscribe that I find mentioned in free VPN Reddit posts, I decided to test if Private Relay could replace those for everyday use. After turning it on, browsing felt fast and smooth, and I did not run into any loading issues. The downside is tha..."

"Best VPN Still Works with Discovery Plus? I tried to watch a series on Discovery+ a few days ago that is only available in the US, but I am currently staying in Southeast Asia for work. I assumed one of the free VPNs people often mention in free VPN Reddit posts would be enough, but it turned into a frustrating experience. I first tested ProtonVPN since it is usually praised as a solid free option. Even after connecting to a US location, Discovery Plus kept showing a message saying the content was not available in my area. I then tried Windscribe which at least let me browse the site, but on..."

"Yes, it still downloads, but poorly, very poorly, so it's not right. Furthermore, on some private or public trackers, you'll see your ratio plummet rapidly, preventing you from downloading again. You can ask chatgpt to explain the problem in more detail. NordVPN is not recommended for P2P downloading."

NordVPN didn't allow me to connect to any server. Funny enough Proton VPN was working perfectly and was very fast to connect to servers in Hong Kong, Japan or Cambodia (where I reside). Just my experience."

"I've used ExpressVPN, NordVPN and most recently ProtonVPN (all paid tiers). I ended up sticking with Nord for a couple of reasons. 1. They seem to have less issues with blocks from Cloudflare. I often found ProtonVPN endpoints being blocked by Cloudflare as malicious. No issues on NordVPN. 2. Kill switch and tunneling implementation. On Nord I can operate a kill switch and vpn at the app level meaning I can have individual apps vpn'ed and kill-switched . In Proton they are mutually exclusive meaning if you have killswitch enabled it's for everything. If you have split tunneling you can't use t..."
