What the Community Says

Community Rating 7.5/10

Mullvad has a really strong reputation for privacy, and it’s one of the few VPNs people trust when they say “no logs.” It’s also loved for letting you sign up without an email and pay in very private ways (even by mail), plus it avoids the whole influencer/affiliate marketing vibe that turns some folks off. Day to day, people often describe it as fast and stable, especially with WireGuard, and solid for general browsing and torrenting.

The biggest downside is that it’s not the best pick if streaming is your main goal—some people run into services like ESPN or other apps not working reliably. There are also complaints about features changing over time (like port forwarding being removed), which can be a dealbreaker for certain setups. And while many call the price fair, others feel it’s a bit expensive for a “simple” VPN if you’re not specifically buying it for privacy-first features.

Strengths

  • Strong privacy focus
  • No email required
  • Anonymous payment options
  • Fast speeds (especially with WireGuard)
  • Good for torrenting
  • Trusted “no-logs” reputation
  • No influencer/affiliate marketing feel

Weaknesses

  • Streaming can be hit or miss
  • Port forwarding no longer supported
  • Can feel pricey for a basic VPN
  • Some apps/services may block it
Best for: Privacy-focused users who want minimal personal info tied to their account People who want a straightforward VPN for everyday browsing and torrenting Anyone who values a VPN that doesn’t rely on referral links and influencer promos
Not ideal for: People who mainly want a VPN for streaming sports and TV apps Users who specifically need port forwarding for their setup Bargain hunters who want the cheapest plan possible

"Exactly. Anyone looking for a proper VPN btw, that won't get hit by the ban, and won't bend to the UK government, take a look at Mullvad. Years ago when they were raided, they just let the police in because they had literally NO logs of anything, at all. All the VPNs you get advertised on YouTube say they don't keep logs, but they do and police reports prove it. ExpressVPN / PIA / Surfshark etc - ..."

"The offices and homes of Mullvad employees and their families have been raided multiple times by their government, not one piece of custom information has ever been found. There are also many technical reasons they are superior to Proton. And Obscura is a double hop VPN that exits via Mullvad."

"@akuro_kijin Mullvad VPN. It's truly anonymous. No email needed, you can even pay in cash if you want. No logs. I get way better download speeds with them than I did with Proton VPN, which slowed to a halt after about 2gb. Based in Sweden 🐐 €5 about $5.50 per month. Worth it!"

"@BasilTheGreat Better yet.. Download a VPN, pick a Swiss one like ProtonVPN or Swedish like Mullvad.. Five Eyes (UK+US+mates) can’t just poke about and grab logs.. Audited no-logs policy actually holds up .. Real privacy move .."

"@smspoolnet Perhaps the main reason is they both refuse to cooperate with law-enforcement. Mullvad has already proven that when they were raided."

"@uuuM312vyx5 @DudeAccount1337 @T3chFalcon This is why my VPN of choice is usually Mullvad. Based in Sweden, and still relatively not talked about to much."

"...ch vows to exit if compelled), consensus favors Signal for default E2EE, open-source audits, and disappearing messages. Pair with no-logs VPNs (e.g., Mullvad/Proton) and device updates. Stay vigilant—encryption backdoors undermine..."

"@mebeim @losivart @uwukko Some VPN companies are forced to hand over data to governments too, if requested. I remember it happened to Mullvad (i believe the German government requested it) but luckily they didn't have any logs so the police left empty handed."

"@PeterSweden7 People should just pay for 50 years of mullvad VPN with cold hard cash RN. then the UK can't track them, or where the money even came from."

"Finally. The trade deficit in services is massive. The US also uses digital services as a way to spy on Europe. Time to switch. Gmail -> Proton. VPN? Mulvad. And many more, European alternatives for all the needs."

"@OfficialGuyE @thecoastguy TOR's unusable. Foreign VPN (Proton, Mullvad, SurfShark) are recommended. All UK legislation becomes null and void. Just need safe browser (TOR or others) plus burnable email account (ProtonMail) and "private" Social Media accounts. UK Government has lost its shit"

@DaveFred311115 1 week ago View on Twitter →

"@thecoastguy Basically correct. 1. All UK legislation can be ignored if you use non-UK based VPN providers (Proton, Mullvad, SurfShark) 2. Attempts to inspect traffic by nosey governments (using DPI) can be undermined (and are by the above providers) 3. Rent foreign VPS + use own VPN 😁"

"7/8: "But I'm in the US, why does server location matter?" Protection stack: 1️⃣ VPN company jurisdiction (Mullvad = Sweden, no logs) 2️⃣ Server location (Malaysia/Chile/Brazil = MLAT barriers) 3️⃣ DAITA enabled (defeats traffic analysis) 4️⃣ Multihop (optional 3rd jurisdiction)"

"@Pirat_Nation Most VPN providers are not under UK jurisdiction, good luck getting companies that base their entire business model on privacy like mullvad or proton to comply. This is completely unenforceable considering they cant identify which VPN you are using only that you are using one"

"...fucking Gmail or whatever. The VPN is the best service with port forwarding that you can pay for with Monero that I know of. AirVPN is also rly good.
