Battlestar Galactica, which began as a two-part miniseries before being picked up as a weekly series that ran on the Sci-Fi Channel (now Syfy) for four seasons from 2004 to 2009, is considered one of this century’s best science fiction programs. A reboot of a 70’s television show, Battlestar Galactica revolves around a group of humans fleeing from a homicidal race of  androids known as Cylons on a fleet of starships under the protection of the last remaining military ship, the eponymous Battlestar Galactica, with the ultimate goal of arriving at the storied sanctuary planet known as Earth. The fleet comprises the sole surviving population of humans in the aftermath of a devastating attack on their home colonies by the Cylons.

During its original broadcast period, Battlestar Galactica became a cult hit, garnering critical acclaim and breathing new life into the science fiction genre. While many series in this genre date themselves rather quickly, the politic themes, questions of identity, and sheer suspense of Battlestar Galactica hold up, making it just as good as watch today as it was a decade ago.

For those interested in viewing Battlestar Galactica, there are a multitude of options. For one, you can purchase the whole series on iTunes and Google Play, although that can get quite expensive, with each season going for $25 bucks, or more.

While the series not on Netflix or Amazon Prime, it is available to subscribers of the Hulu streaming service, which costs only $7.99 a month with ads or $11.99 a month, ad-free. Using Hulu to binge through Battlestar Galactica is certainly a cheaper way to catch the show compared to buying it on iTunes or Google Play, unfortunately there remains one major issue: Hulu is only available to U.S. residents. Those outside of the states will have to employ the use of a VPN in order to use the service.

Unlike Netflix, Hulu is only available to subscribers within the United States. Luckily there’s a workaround for those outside the U.S. hoping to stream Battlestar Galactica and involves subscribing to a VPN. A VPN (Virtual Private Network) reroutes your internet connection through one of many servers located around the world, granting you an IP address within whatever country the server is located in. By doing this, you may bypass regional restrictions on subscription streaming services like Hulu, with the added bonus of cybersecurity that renders your web browsing safer and more secure.

In short, using a VPN voids Hulu’s U.S-only restriction. Simply configure your VPN to connect to a server located within the United States in order to subscribe to and use the service. From there, Battlestar Galactica, and thousands of other films and tv shows, are yours to watch at any time.

Non-U.S. residents hoping to watch Battlestar Galactica through Hulu may run into another issue: the service only accepts U.S. credit and debit cards. However, Walmart sells $25 and $50 Hulu gift cards that you can use to subscribe to the service without the need for a credit card. Once you buy the Hulu gift card, Walmart will email you a code that you can use during the setup process. You’ll also need a U.S. address and phone number to sign up, too, but those are easily accessible online.

  1. Subscribe to a VPN provider with a good choice of U.S. servers (such as ExpressVPN)
  2. Download and install the VPN client on your chosen devices
  3. Connect to a server inside the United States.
  4. Go to the Hulu website and subscribe to the service. If you lack a U.S. credit card, purchase a Hulu gift card through the Walmart website in order to pay for the service.
  5. Download and install Hulu on your digital media player, or preferred streaming device, or connect to the Hulu website on your computer.
  6. Choose Battlestar Galactica from the Hulu menu and stream all four seasons at your leisure.
